“Biggering” by Caroline Ellis 2017
My painting is a statement of how people are naturally driven to “biggering”*. The candle and candelabra represent “biggering”, the candle being an idea and the candelabra being an all-consuming machine that needs to consume to keep “biggering”. “Biggering” either in business to become more successful or in making ourselves more comfortable with a bigger house or boat or better car, new iPod etc… and throwing away the old even though it is still functional. My painting shows a need to find balance; balance between consuming natural resources to be comfortable or successful and between only having what is needed to survive. Education is important to help society find balance. *Reference to Dr Sues “The Lorax”
